Motion
Make It Wobble
A short, slightly unhinged defence of squash and stretch on the modern web.
Dag Lindqvist

Somewhere around 2019 the web decided that motion should be tasteful, and tasteful came to mean a 200ms fade and nothing else.
Weight is information
When an object squashes on impact, it tells you how heavy it is, how fast it was travelling and what it is made of — before you have read a single word. That is a lot of communication for twelve frames.
Where it works
Small, frequent, discretionary interactions. Buttons. Toggles. Anything a visitor touches more than once. The payoff is that touching it again feels good, which is the entire mechanism behind every interface anyone has ever described as delightful.
Where it does not
Navigation, form validation, and anything a visitor is doing under time pressure. A wobble on a submit button is charming. A wobble on an error message is contempt.
